'Democratic Consciousness: an Actionable Agonistic Theory of Democracy' was my Master's Thesis, submitted to the LSE in 2023.
In it, I attempt to synthesize the descriptively compelling agonistic account of democracy developed by Jacques Rancière with György Lukács' account of class consciousness and collective action. In this, I attempt to both reivtalize Lukács' thought for the 21st Century and argue for the necessity of partisan action according to the normative demands of democracy. I further argue that this synthesis may enable recurrent, self-enforcing moments of democracy within Rancière's framework, avoiding the fatalism of orthodox readings.
